Good Afternoon,

I am about to purchase a 2004 Range Rover 4.4 however the supplying independent dealer does not have any service history on the car at all.

I have contacted Land Rover UK who refuse to tell me anything due to the data protection act, they wont even tell me the supplying dealer or the county it was first supplied in.

I am somewhat stumped, I would like to buy the car but am somewhat concerned without seeing the level of service it has or not had.

Does anybody have any suggestions etc or can any one help me out?

Regards,

Greg.

Really weird. I've had completely the opoosite approach from BMW UK with my very recent purchase of an X5 (Rangie still on the drive awaiting a decent day to wash her and get pics to advertise!!) I phoned them about the X5 I've now purchased and they were incredibly helpful, giving me every bit of info about the car on BMWs systems - without obviously identifying any prev owners etc which is the likely purpose of the Data Protection issues. I'd be very wary indeed about purchasing one of the L322s with absolutely no service history and an attitude problem from Land Rover........there are many, many more for sale out there - I'd walk away unless I could get a huge discount!!

If the dealer is that interested in you buying it then they could contact the previous owner and ask them about the service history...? It would probably be too much to expect them to give you the previous owner's details so you could contact them yourself...

In fact I can't see any reason why they won't contact LR themselves as they are trade (and presumably the current legal owner).

It would be worth pointing out to them that the lack of service history would put anyone off and that you are otherwise really keen.

If they can't be bothered then it suggests there's maybe something they're hiding so I would advise finding another one. There are plenty out there. Apparently it's a buyers market!

Just my tuppence worth.

Guy
