Anyone know offhand if there should be a screw here?

It's used on the R40 as engine cover is bigger and the air duct is different.

Air duct route is better on the R40 in my opinion.

But it's not so good for wading, which is why the FL1 uses the higher inner wing air intake.

No not at all even though it is at the top of the bonnet, :D and it is a lower car, it is still a lot better than the 2.0 or 1.8 induction on the R40 MGZT with K series engine, most of the time the shannon tube gets holed and can suck in water

I managed to suck water into the air filter housing of my new ZS 180 many years ago, when I thought I'd be ok driving through a shallow flood near home. I was rather surprised to find the air filter soaking wet, when the engine stalled. I didn’t realise at the time, that the air intake was so low down.
Thankfully no water got past the filter, or I'd have been in trouble, if I'd trashed the engine in a 3 month old car.
