can anyone help with a miss-fire problem on my 95 v8 disco? i have changed leads, plugs, coil, rotor arm, cap. the miss is there even on gas, ive done a compression test and every thing is fine. a new inlet gasket has been fitted and everthing is air tight round the intake. any ideas would be gratefully recived!!!!

Are the cap and leads genuine or Lucas ones ? If they arent I'm suprised it will run at all after the poor quality cr-p I've seen fitted in the last few years.

all the new bits are lucus. the miss seems to be on the n/s bank and gets worse the hotter she gets, so im off to buy a new compression tester tomorrow.

First off find out which Cyl is giving miss by pulling off leads one at a time then swop plugs and lead over and if it is the same Cyl then you have got to think it will not be injector as it still misses on gas. if the compression is ok or close remove the rocker cover on that bank and check for any "gunge" about the rockers etc. If so I would remove inlet manifold and check the lobes on the camshaft of that Cyl. They are bad for wearing if oil is not changed often.

ive had both rocker boxes off when i changed the inlet gasket and the inside was clean, the cam looks good to. ive done another comp-test with a different tester and no-3 is showing just under 1 bar less than the rest so off with its heads!!!! thanxs for the tips

1 bar is only 14psi - that is not your missfire - dont take the heads off.Get help from a local garage to sort it,or you are going to end up in a pickle !

ive spoke to a local garage and they think it may be the air flow meter, its booked in to be pluged in. thanx for everyones help, will post the results as i know

I had the same problem with a R,reg Disco & only by fitting Landrover's own leads did it solve the problem. Try finding a very dark place & look at the plug leads when it is running & if they are glowing or tracing to earth they are crap leads.

danger!!!! dont take your local land rover dealers word for it!!!! took the miss-fire petrol pig to the local land rover dealer for them to plug it into their childs v-tec computor, thay told me it would need 2 cats, 2 lambda sensors, air-flow meter, gear switch, fuel temp sensor, coolant sensor and that well known cause off a miss-fire a tyre!! i paid robin hood for time they spent dreaming up what they could spank me for and chugged out in my lumpy disco. i put a new tyre on and was gutted when the miss was still there. the next day i took it to my wifes work (a local toyota dealer) where one off the tecs said he would take a look in his dinner hour. 20mins later he found the fault lay within the wiring for the gas switch over. now all 8 are on demand!!!! thanxs for all the help and a tip for you all, use land rover dealers after lotto wins!!!!
