Misfiring issue

The EFI ECU controls the fuelling based on the various sensors, testing the workings within the ECU isn't a diy function, but as the EFI coolent/engine temperature sensor is the most common one to fail and will cause over-fueling when engine is up to temperature, this can be tested, resistance data on that and sensors can be found on the LRV8 engine sites (such as mentioned in the post above) and Forums... or replace it.

Just to add: if over-fuelling on a cold start indicated by lots of black smoke then the ECU is/ or maybe faulty, as I found out in my 3.5 days, main Dealers didn't have a replacement so I took it to Lucas and they bench tested and repaired it while I waited, those where the days when Lucas was everywhere but still cost £100 for the repair.
I replaced the coolant temp sensor bc I thought originally that's what it was but after replacing with new spark plugs and it coming back I don't think it helped. The exhaust doesn't throw out black smoke but does smell different than normal more of a noticible bad smell than it used to can't really explain it though.

This article may give you some pointers. I've only skimmed it but it seems well written.

Thanks I will have a read.

that's over fuelling !

you're not wrong
Have you looked into rebuilding or replacing the distributor? I would like to see if that's made a difference on yours. I'm replacing the O2 sensors to see if maybe that will effect it any. If not I'm gonna look into replacing the maf. Maybe I won't have the same results as you when you did yours. Then if that doesn't work I might try high performance plugs instead of the normal ones

the distributor is next on the list. I plan on pulling it next week and stripping it.

the MAF is getting hard to find. Rover Gauge will tell you if the MAF is misreading or the O2 sensors are toast.. either can have the same effect. the throttle pot could also be problematic.. again Rover Gauge will help here

Check engine lights on now im sure it because of the misfiring... Wish I could read to codes to make sure thats what its on about.

Yes but atleast the UK isnt filled with big rednecks. As you brits say everything is bigger in the US. lol. I am actually from alabama.
Ooh Alabama,
The devil fools with the best laid plans.

We do have another member from Alabama. I remember reciting the same line about a year ago

Im gonna try to order it soon. Im in the US unfortunately so it would have to be shipped oversea.
If I'd have known a couple of days sooner I could have brought it out with me. I'm in Atlanta tomorrow then up to alabama on Thursday.
I'll be back in the states again in a few weeks but I guess you'll have it by then.

I hope I have it figured out in a few weeks
OK, if not, then I can get one here and bring it over next time I'm in alabama in June.
I'm often in the states so if you need something that will fit easily in a suitcase and isn't too heavy I'd be happy to bring it over for you.

Got the lady in the car to take a ride, and of course when shes in it the misfiring was gone. Also the passenger seat backwards movement wasnt working and when she is in it, it works! Ridiculous haha

Quite a lot of manual seats only adjust with weight on. Never come across an electric one though!

Yeah that would make sense but since all movement controls worked perfectly besides moving the seat back. Im gonna be ordering tune up stuff soon so that once i get the issue fixed im going to go ahead and do the tune up. Have any of you heard good stuff about atlanticbritish they sell alot of range rover stuff in the US. Heres what im thinking about ordering. http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9200 also gonna order the distributor service kit. what do you think of it? http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/RTC5971
