Hey, have searched various threads but can't quite find the answer to my issue...

The powerfold mirrors on my freebie 05 td4 sport seem to have become possessed! I have been fiddling about with little bits and bobs; drying out the cubby (lifting the carpet edge), fitting a new pollen filter and checking rear window rubber seating and since, my mirrors have a mind of their own. They will open and close randomly and also occasionally when I indicate! They respond with the switch to angle/pitch but will not fold on request....

I haven't tried disconnnecting the battery yet to attempt a reset but did pull the number 14 fuse in the dash - they still carried on working so must be a diff fuse for the folding. Any thoughts of a constructive nature that aren't about burning or destroying etc would be appreciated. (Doors falling off is also unrequired at this time!)

TIA :)

Thanks chaps - I don't know quite what happened and wether it'll reoccur but they seem to be back under my control after the keyfob reset (press either button 5 times in succession). Didn't work straight off but they seemed to recalibrate themselves on the way home from work!? Folding worked when I parked up. Odd but i shan't knock it/await a check in the mornin. :)

PS My fuse cover had them all labelled, maybe incorrectly then!

Next mornin - nope! Folded themselves again :(

With regard to the mirrors folding in when indicating I can only think a short in the wiring.

The mirrors on mine sometimes do not fold from the switch on the first attempt and it can take several goes to get them to work.
It has been suggested that changing the switch may help and as it's the cheapest option, if it gets any worse I'll probably do that first.

Hmmm, yeah was hoping it wasn't something like a short - I'll have a poke around me rave installation to see wiring path. I was fiddling about in passenger footwell with pollen filter for a bit... no harm in checking I spose. Next gonna try battery disconnection and see if that clears the problem.

Ok then! Just checked passenger footwell and yes, there is a relay there which had been knocked loose! Either me faffing about or my daughter kicked it. whatever, it's a bloody relief to have a solution. Feel like a bit of a clot but I don't care!

If anyone else has intermittent mirrors then check the passenger footwell, right of pollen filter, there's a covered relay, see pic :D

Cheers

Having checked this again, it looks an unused terminal under a rubber shroud! My mirrors are stupid and misbehaving again! Gah!! F@ckin things

Thats your diagnostic plug :)

Going from extremely bad memory, isnt your powerfold mirror relay up the lefthand side behind the dash? Like, accessible by dropping the glovebox or whatever it is you do on fl1 :)

There should only be 1 relay behind there , so its kinda half way up the n/s/f a post behind the glovebox i think :)

Happy hunting !
