Mig welder problem

I know some from these pages don't wander out much. So will ask here too
Someone I know has asked the below

This bit where the welding wire passes through and the gas pipe goes into is leaking gas and he doesn’t know how it comes off and is fed up with it. Any help appreciated

What welding set is it @gold rover, do you know?
It looks like the rubber cover is pulled off the end on the right of the picture?

I think the nut is to be undone and change the liner in the torch. Some torches are not so expensive to replace but that'll depend on the set.

He's quite rural, on a farm and in middle of lockdown. Might not be so simple

No need to join to read comments, might be better to have a look on mig-welding.co.uk for info, no need to join that one either to view it. Have a google of mig welder euro torch conversion for some pics see if it looks something like his, but in general if the torch bit doesnt unscrew from front of welder then gas goes up a seperate pipe inside the outer sheath.

I was thinking more 'join to interact, in case he has questions'. Rather than myself being middleman

Gas hose has a leak somewhere in the flex to the hand piece, which is why gas is coming down he liner

I did indeed. Did it first. Then realised some in here don't wander into realms such as AG, as they have to wipe their feet on the way out

Cannot get hold of any PPE to be able to venture in.

I have a RR don't you know and a butler. We also bring our own mat.

Just a thing iv done in the past ,The springy wire you get to hold up net curtains with the plastic coating makes a good replacement for the wire feed to the nozzle and if you use gasless wire no need for gas feed...years ago i used co2 bottles for the kegs in pubs ,it was cheep cause i worked for them ...

The gas doesn't go up the wire feed.
Inside the cable leading to the gun you will find the wire feed, the gas feed pipe & the electrical wires to turn the wire feed motor on & off when the trigger is operated.
For migs with electrically operated gas valves - NOT the cheapie with this type of valve inside the gun https://www.weldequip.com/clarke-gas-valve.htm - this also turns the gas on & off.

ETA In this pic the torch end is on the left. The black tube is the wire feed & the white plastic tube is the gas feed. The gas is controlled by the plunger valve in the block.

He needs to check both ends, I suspect the issue is at the welder end.
