Mechanic advised me to remove prop shaft ?

Hi All

My 2003 Freelander went for a service today. He done all the stuff that was recommended on here, air breather etc.

When I got the car back he said I should remove the prop shaft as the IRC gives trouble.

Would this be correct?........ It has only done about 80k and he said its working perfect at the moment but it’s a preventative measure

If you remove the prop it will just drive off the front wheels .
It will go around tight corners better.
Did the same thing to my Range Rover when the centre diff was knackered.

tiz bollix, unless the VCU is knackered - check it regularly to protect IRD

A bit like removing your knees in case they fail in later life...

Some wheelchairs do look comfy though...

This made me laugh

I thought it was a bit extreme given theres nothing wrong it the drive at the moment.

Doing a search it says to remove the "VCU" as well as the prop . Is this really necessary ?

... Only if there is a problem with the VCU.


Mind you, I advise removing the engine because that prevents problems with head gasket.
