Mazda RX8 Seats in a Series

Hi guys
I'm just wondering if it can be done in an 88" as a 109's rear bulkhead is different, so the question is has enyone on here done it in an 88"

I would expect so but the seat box and the handbrake probably pokes you or the girlfriend n the arse

Can’t think of anything worse tbh. Nothing at all wrong with Series seats.

I don't have series seats fitted but have had in past series landy's and on long drives i found them really uncumfatuble, atm i have Defender seats fitted and although they are pretty good i just want something better and from past experience i know the RX8 seats are ( fitted to my 90 ) i used to own and every time i did a long trip when i got out i wanted to do it all again they are a really cumfy seat

My drivers seat is out at the moment while repairs are underway and it’s fantastic just sat on the seat box. I can even see through the screen.
Won’t last though when the big daft thing is back in. My excuse is they were cheap and out of a defender but they are aftermarket bucket type things and although reasonably comfy once your in one, you take off your taytors getting there.

Each to their own.

I did long trips in my Series. Seats were fine for me and I have a bad back.

I have Defender seats in my 88 at the mo, but tbh the Defender seats take up too much room compared to the stock Series ones. Tall people would struggle. I'd suggest RX-8 seats are a lot more bulk and occupant space as well as ingress/egress would be highly reduced as a result of fitting them.

Yeah they do fill the cab but think they are doable they was tight in the Defender as well but last time i used electric seats but this time i mite just go for std clother RX8 seats as the electric seats are heavy and started to damage the seat box on the drivers side due to the weight and off roading

I have Audi seats in my series, think they are from an A3. Trimmed as much of the seat base off them as I could and then welded some strip steel on to align with the standard adjustable seat rails.
They are much better for me than the Series seats I had before, I also had some high back seats that looked good but were gave no support and you slid off them on bends. The thing I really like about the Audi seats is the recline and electric lumber adjustment.

I've won a pair of Grey & Black cloth RX8 seats and going picking them up on Sunday afternoon after i finish work, the idea is to see if they will fit without moding the rear bulkhead as i'm 5'9", hopfully as son is over 6' and they fit it will then keep him out of it

Didn't get the seats as the seller wouldn't msg back after accepting the price offer

I see seats advertised on facebook market place quite often and normally quite cheap, the Audi ones I fitted were free and reasonable tidy.

I was going to get smart car seats till I saw the price people were asking

Joking aside I won't be putting series seats in mine, not sure what I will use but may cut down the seat box to allow more room.
The rest of the vehicle will be original but the original seats are horribly uncomfortable. I am going to remove the middle seat so I can move the two seats slightly inwards as well.
I will probably do a bit of measuring at the time and go to the scrappy and look for some reasonable heated leather jobbies in good nick, despite the horror and sacrilege.

I share the same thoughts about Series seats, so had a set of early Defender seats retrimmed in leather and heated elements fitted. Still look original enough and much comfier.

All joking aside. Why don't you drive a different vehicle? Sounds like you don't really want a Series.

Moving the seats inboard would be stupid unless you are also going to move the steering column and pedals. Else you'll end up facing a different direction to the direction of travel. Which would be horrid and uncomfortable. Also doing this you'll end up with the hand brake in the way....

I am over six feet, something has to move to let me get in and out and not have my feet behind my ears.
The seat plan will need to wait to I am nearer that bit in my restoration, don't have any fixed plans until I get nearer. The only certainty is that I won't be refitting the original type seats which from experience are pretty uncomfortable.
It is probably the only part of my whole vehicle that won't be original, there is only so far that I am willing to take the obsession with originality to, and it definitely doesn't include the torture of the original seats and their position!
