I'm fitting new door handles to the new doors on my 93 200Tdi (the new doors are Puma type).

I have recently seen that I can buy a matching ignition and door lock set which uses just one key for all.

If I go this route will the replacement barrels fit the standard front and rear door handles? Would the igintion/steering lock fit the existing steering collum?

I haven't seen any different types of door handle, so was wondering if these longer locks fit the same handle?

A search produced some interesting info but hasn't been conclusive. Anyone doen this upgrade?

The ignition barrel will fit without problem, so long as you take note of the wiring position/colours. I have a Puma ignition barrel on my 1992 200tdi.

The door locks are a little more complicated. You can’t fit “large” lock barrels to “small” handles, without serious machining of the handle or lock barrel.

What locks were in the handles you want to use? Are they the original handles from the Puma doors? If so, they should be “large” lock barrels and should work with the new upgrade.

I did this upgrade on a Y2000 TD5 Defender. There were 2 kits available. I went for the one with longer key and more lock pins.
New ignition barrel and side door lock barrels were straight swap, but new rear door lock was required that I think cost an extra £35 or so.

Top tip. Leave the door cards off the front doors for a few days after you swap out the barrels. If one of the spring clips on the rods hasn't clipped on properly you may find the door is locked and neither internal or external handle will open it...
