Matching a gearbox

My Mate has just got anex military 90 with te 2.5na.
He has a
1991–1995 BMW 525tds - 2.5 L M51D25 OL I6 143 PS (105 kW; 141 hp) diesel
engine which we believe to be similar to the P38engine.
Which manual gearbox will mate up with engine and fit into the 90? And which bell housing?

it is possible to build an r380 that bolts up to p38 diesel engine and has the gear selector mechanism of the defender ,presumably none with out conversion kit

I think I will phone Ashcroft and see what they say.
He's looking at the option as that is the engine sitting in his unit.
He's been offered a 19J for £100 - Any takers?
Or a 300tdi with R380 from a disco.

- I wonder how deep his pockets go.
