Work this one out then

Just bought a 200tdi 110 SW and the clutch pedal will only go down half way, no stops, carpet, dead ferrets stopping in!

Whipped the cover plate off the master cylinder and there is only half as much travel on the piston as should be

Apparently it was changed not so long ago by a independant and the last owner did'nt have one leg 6" shorter than the other.

I already have a series 3 master cylinder that I can stick on but any thought appreciated why it's like this?

Needless to say it's a bastid to change gear:mad:

Cheers

have you tryed bleeding the clutch ?

when you say the peddle goes halfway down , I take it theres no resistance till half way down ??

It's the travel in the piston on the master cylinder that's stopping the clutch peddle going to the floor.

If you ajust the cylinder shaft so that it is at the end of the thread the peddle is higher (not pressed) but goes down to 12cm off the floor, then when you ajust the other way it peddle height drops 2cm but goes down to 10cm off the floor.

Not done anything yet as it's a bastide to bleed with the exhaust in the way and as I have to have a look at the starter motor I'm going to do them both at the same time.

i think he means it will actually not go any futher than half way down as the piston in the master has reached the end of its travel

( was getting a base line to go from :) ) .

Either the master cylinder is the wrong one or your clutch fork is about to push through its pivot ( common problem with em )

Started takeing the master clutch cylinder off and when I undid the union the clutch went to the floor ???? put more fluid in and the clutch now works and goes to the floor but the gears are still a bastid to get!!

Talking to a "gearbox expert" this morning and he reckons it's a clutch problem??

But what?

Not got a problem taking the box off but I wana be 100% sure before hand.

Help!

I have just bought this vehicle and the gearbox was changed about 2 years ago so I don't think it's the famous "hole" in the clutch fork.

Dropped the box this weekend and it was the fecking clutch fork that had bent/split at the yoke :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

All back together and now changes gear like a "good un" :)
