I have no relationship with this event, but I'm entered in the December running and it seems like something others might be interested in. Sort of a fantasy camp for those of us who have always wanted to run the Dakar. Hahaha!

I met with the organizers a few weeks ago, and they are very serious, very professional gentlemen who appear to put on a heck of a week. It's affordable, too. Figure a couple thousand Euros, ALL IN, including food, lodging, fuel, ferries, timing rentals, etc. And that's per vehicle, so split it two ways.

A couple of my friends ran it last December. Englishmen living and working here in Spain. They couldn't speak more highly of how much fun they had, or of how well run the event was.

I'll post a report when it's over, and also probably a thread of the preparation of my RRC...

I'm watching this with interest, it sounds amazing. Please keep us updated on everything.

I also dream about doing the Dakar!

Edit: I read about this last year and really wanted to do it, but that was about as far as it got...

I posted a link to the event website in my original post, but when you Google "Maroc Challenge" it should also be the first result to come up. Go to that web page, and at the top right, there is a pulldown for language options. English, French, Portuguese or Italian.

It's a desert baja style race in Morocco for amateurs over 8 (I think) days. Anyone can enter as long as the vehicle is 16 years or over.

There are 3 different categories, but to enter the raid one you need to have done the adventure one before

It looks awesome and if I could get a group together I would def give it a go. I fancy doing it in a car, maybe an Impreza or something. I also think you need to be able to speak Spanish as it looks like it is 90% Spanish with a few Italians thrown in.

Definitely a lot of Spaniards entered every year, and definitely a lot of Italians. There are five or six English teams entered in December, and the organizers at least are all fluent in English. If you are entered as an English-speaking team, the organizers provide you with dedicated English speaking contacts (two ex-pat Englishmen, Andy and Roy) who live here in Spain and are part of the organization. They come along on every event. All the emails I get on the event are in English and all the documents and info I get on the event are in English. My two English friends here who went last December had a blast and never mentioned anything about language issues.

Plus, Andy and Roy are super helpful. They will walk you through the preparation of the car (they looked at my RRC and said: "Just make sure it's in good shape. Don't overspend. Bear in mind, people enter in Citroen Meharis and stuff, and although those people definitely struggle, a Range Rover will be fine unless you break it.") they help with navigation and are always available to answer any questions I have.

I wouldn't worry too much about language. One thing I have learned about living and working abroad is that whenever there are numerous people with numerous languages getting together and talking about anything, the default common tongue is English. Granted, having beers around the bivouac at night might mean bluffing your way through conversations in whatever language works with whatever team, but by and large, I think English is going to be fine for the guts of the event.

Thanks dude, couldn't get the linkin your post to work but that might be because I'm on my phone.

Wow, it looks incredible and not hugely expensive for what it is.

I won't be able to make the ones this year but seriously considering next year.

+ 1 for getting an old scooby.

I'll be following this with interest.

Yeah, that's kind of where I am too, might try and do one next year if I can find enough people

No, I think it was my fault. The address is correct, but it doesn't seem to work with the "www" on the front. When I type just marocchallenge.es it opens fine.

actually if your doing such an event you might as well do it in something more fun to be honest

id seriously be up for making up a team.

I think mrs vil would like it as well, and shes got a heavy right foot when it comes to offroading (usually involves going thro' a wall or two though)

what would be the plan, 3 or 4 cars sticking together and getting each other out of pickles?

I am thinking something 4wd with plenty of power, but a car as it makes it a bit more of a challenge. So Legacy, Mitsi Legnum or Gallant etc. And then raise the suspension a bit, fit underguards, big tyres.

TBH I totally stole the idea from these guys
