Get my 2006 TD4 sport on weds. First one ive had and just wondering if its worth getting these mapped or not for performance. It will not be used off road just in the countryside were i live for taking dog out.

I am getting 3 month warranty with it plus 12 months mot. Is there anything in particular i need to check etc before the warranty runs out .

How reliable are these after reading a lot of this forum i get the feeling a lot goes wrong with them ??

thanks for any replies

From my experience of an 02 Td4, they are very reliable if you look after them. Remember this forum is the place to go when it goes wrong, so it's not surprising lots of faults are recorded here.

1. Check VCU - search '1 wheel up test' or reverse on full lock to check for tendency to stall.

2. Check handbrake doesn't stick, especially after overnight parking.

3. Pull the dipstick while the engine's running and ensure there's no blowing.

4. Check turbo/intercooler hoses for leaks.

5. Ensure back silencer box isn't rotted out.

6. Check temp gauge reads in the middle once engine warm - stuck open thermostat is common.

7. Make sure the tailgate reliably opens and closes. Check all windows go up and down fully without noise/juddering.
