Just purchased a nice ES Discovery...and was a bit surprized that id still
doesn't have an intergrated interior / map light...that even my old
Freelander had !

Does anybody know if the freelander unit will fit into the Disco, or if
there are third party units available...though not the dedicated off road
type...just a nice intergrated type would suffice..

cheers,

Hi,

My ES has the map lights in the rear view mirror.....does yours? There are 3
buttons on the bottom of mine, 1 for the auto-dimmer, and one for each map
light ;-) They are *best* map lights I've ever had in a vehicle.

Otherwise known as "spliff lights". Can't think why.

Damn...nah...mine only has the lights on either side of the vanity mirrors
( under sun visors :)... Hmmmm..maybe I'll do a web search to investigate
what these "spliff lights" look like, and if they're available anywhere...

The early disco 1 had map lights either side of the main courtesy light, or
mine did. later one (300 type) doesn't, or they're not fitted. They were
on swivelly mountings to let you aim 'em.

aha...so maybe that early map / interior light will fit a series 2 ?

Can someone defing the "type" designation ?

Like, is "type300" the 1990-93, or 1994-98....and what "types" are the
series 2 etc reffered to ?

early disco 1 from launch (1989) up to about 1993 sometime: commonly known
as "200" type as fitted with 200TDi engine (as well as V8s).

later disco 1 from 1993 'til end of disco 1s (1998?) commonly known as "300"
from the 300 TDi engine. differnet front end with better lights, radically
different (and IMHO less good) dash, better heater controls.

disco II: TD5 engine or thor V8 (generally), longer rear end, forward facing
fold-up seats. revised front end (again). Later ones have poncier lights,
ISTR.

Disco III: TDV6 engine or new V8, 113" wheelbase.

As to whether the light unit from the 200 type with the twin map lights will
fit a disco II, I have no idea.
