Hi I am planning to make an oil catch tank on my 90 td. Vehicle no longer has a turbo on it. Probably due to reliability issues on the early models. Vehicle currently has breather from oil filler literally stuffed into intake pipe just before inlet manifold. They used to go in just before air filter but presume heavy breathing clogged filter. Now I own the truck I want to route the breather into a catch tank then empty out any oil manually target than risk engine running on. Chap who mot'd it said make one using plastic bottle. Fed in the breather pipe then take another pipe put and run it up snorkel drill a small hole in the ram and put it in there. Does this sound right? Has anybody done this before or something similar? Trying to make it ask water tight as snorkel is a new addition. Just want to get it right. Any help out photos much appreciated. Cheers Richard

If it isn't breathing too heavily you could just point the breather pipe to atmosphere or better still the chassis and have an automatic rust prevention system

Hi hogie I would route it to chassis bit I'm trying to make all the engine parts water tight so I can wade if I need to. Where did you get your catch tank wolf?

Found loads of nice catch tanks on ebay. all come with10/15mm connections. Measured the connection on my oil filler cap and it is 17mm. Any ideas? Presumably i just route the pipe into catch tank then into the t before the air filter?

If you search for 250ml oil catch tank on Google, there's a website called larkspeed.com that comes up. The one they have advertised is exactly the same as mine.

I just attached it on using an exhaust clamp which I bolted to the wing, it did the job perfectly. For the moment my oil vapour pipe is jubilee clipped on tightly enough but its done and in need of replacement. Will post pics in a sec

As promised.

As you can see the exhaust clamp worked perfectly as a mount. Black hose is from the cyclone breather and the clear hose goes to an inlet before the air filter.

And no this wasn't some hose I had lying around my back garden  as my mate suggested. It was what came with it

Isn't it illegal or something to vent oil vapour to the atmosphere? Forgot to take a pic, will pop back out now and do it
Good point Wolf, It may be the case but many older vehicles left the showroom that way. I have an old Moto Guzzi motorcycle designed and still running with a vent pipe exiting behind the number plate.

Venting to the chassis? Breathing that in like when standing still in a traffic jam really isnt good for you, the side effects , the worst of which are permanent really arnt nice.

I ran an oil catrch tank on my 90tdi, the catch tank used to fill up with grey emulsified sludge and needed constatnt draining, it got chucked and since running the pipe to atmosphere under the brake servo literally nothing comes out of it!
