Thanks arctic2 I will get the son in law to try it for me why are they so hard to get to buts that’s Landrover

It's easy to get to the MAF when the M47 engine is fitted in the BMW 3 series, longitudinally.
It only got difficult to get at when BMW decided to use the M47 in a transverse fitment in the Freelander. The water pump and thermostat are much easier to get at in the BMW 3 series engine bay too. This happens when engines find there way into vehicles, they have no business being fitted to.;)

i totally agree Nodge the water pump and thermostat is absolutely stupid I remember when I did the thermostat many years ago it was up and down with the engine so many times I almost threw the towel in with freelanders.

so I purchased a "new" maf centre piece and boy I wish I had gone else where as it is ruff starting and quite a bit of blue smoke ,the old one is going back in tomorrow to see how it runs again , the "new " part is bosch one but I do not think it is new so I am going to get in touch with them and I think I am better off buying a complete new one .

If you bought just the element, then it'll be the wrong part, second hand or a clone.
The correct FL1 MAF only comes as an assembly, with the venturi housing.

I agree Nodge I have been in touch with them but no reply as yet I will get my money back of ebay and buy a proper one I really do not know why I fell for that trick of selling just the element

i spoke with landrover today via my landrover dealer and they said they would not think it would be the MAF look at the vacume hoses also the turbo vent filter maybe they could be right on that one as I have had the engine protector of for a while and the engine is absolutely covered in dirt and so is the filter also they said you do not have to match the maf filter to the engine ,

well I really like to tell you that my car is fixed but to be honest I have not giving it much of a trial BUT while messing about with the MAF I noticed that my air filter was filthy I thought we had changed it earlier in the year but it was over looked and the new one was still in the garage, so that was done along with a new filter for the turbo vent the maf I had brought went back even though Land Rover said it should be fine just swapping the insert, but because it was struggling to keep ticking over and belched out lots of blue smoke it was taken out and now I can hear the engine pulling all that fresh air in and to be honest I have not heard that for a while ,
I was going to swap the vacuum hoses but the roll I got was slack on the joints I measured the inside of it and it was 4.92mm that's nearly a mill more than it should be so did not swap it but only time will tell if it is cured of no power at junctions etc.

I unplugged my MAF as the car was so sluggish and unresponsive, what a difference it made with it off, I have since ordered a new unit and will fit when it arrives this week < fingers Crossed >
