Hi I’m new to the site I come across it looking for advise on my 2000 auto td5 if anyone could help, unsure if I’ve posted in the right place here, the problem is it wont start doesn’t tick over no noise, all the lights windows heaters etc work but when turned to position || I get nothing and the green M&S lights start flashing, it has done this once before weirdly its happened in the same place it did last time, last time it happened it started after I locked and unlocked it, when I lock the car the red immobiliser lights flickers for about 10 seconds an goes off, it had a refurbished xzy switch about 4 months ago, new battery 2-3 months ago, also when the dash lights come on after I turn the key once I get like a relay buzzing behind the clocks an it stops when turned to position ||, just thought I’d list everything any help would be much appreciated thank you

Might be the XY switch again. I've had mine out and back in a couple of times. The tolerances for it to work are super fine. Have you tried moving the shift lever out of S and back in a few times? Sometimes helps. Has the switch been waterlogged? Mine got soaked off roading a while back and it was weeks of intermittent working before it dried out and cleared up. Other reasons for the M&S lights might be faulty wheel sensors.
A code read will tell you for definite what the problem is. There might be someone close to you with a Nanocom.

@sierrafery is you man for this sort of thing.
you are not the first to get this.
I have a feeling it may be something to do with earths and a fuse box, but I may be mistaken.
I get this sometimes if I mistakenly try to start the car in a gear rather than N or P.
Have you tried simply removing the batt earth nd or positive then replacing them? As per the handbook to avoid the alarm going off?
Just to reset stuff, like?
Best of luck with it.:):):)

Thanks for the reply the shifter is selecting p,r,n,d fine but iv noticed when it selects D it flashes, the glow plug light stays illuminated longer than the others but goes out roughly 5 seconds after, I don’t take it off road or through water other than puddles on the road, Iv opened the fuse box under the bonnet and when I’m turning the key I’m getting a clicking noise from it, would the starter motor pack in without warning, iv tried to look under it to see if a wire had come loose but can’t quiet see much the alternator has quite abit of oil on too, looks like it’ll be a recovery job to the garage battery is fine too clamps are tight as possible thanks

Yes I too mistakingly do that every now and again, but soon as I put it in P it fires right up, it doesn’t get abused. well since iv owned it it’s been my daily

have you tried jump starting it?
Have you tested the batt and the alternator with a mulit meter?
Hard to test the alternator without it running, I do appreciate, but did you do it beforehand? Cos these trucks are V sensitive to not enough power in the batt.
You expect the glowplug light to go off only once they have heated up, are you saying they go off even later than normal?
