Just come back from Great Yarmouth, filled the Tank to the brim with Bio diesel before set off, so far done 490 miles, about 100 of those urban driving, the needle is low but the light has'nt come on yet, was leaving until the light came on to see what i could get, anyhow she ran like a dream, was well inpressed. Two adults one child and a heavy boot. :)
 
Thats one plus point for the l-series over the td4, it can cope better with cooking oil and bio-diesel. Plus its British.

Have you had to set anything up to run on Bio,?
Would mine run on it? 2000 Freelander 2.0DI L Series
I'm getting about 340 on standard diesel

No. No need to alter anything on the car, Bio diesel will run in any Diesel engine, mines running 100% Bio at the moment, Morrisons is doing B/30 at the pump, i have been making my own for over Two years now, i ran a 01 plate Laguna for 12 Months no problems.

Any Diesel engine at all???? and you have a way to prove that this statement is correct???

Bio Diesel has been used for the last 40 years in diesel engines!! Plus as far as i am aware it's added to regular Diesel at i ratio of 5% on the continent, and here at 3% so far. The figures are all out there if you want to educate yourself on the subject. After all Rudolf Diesel invented the Diesel engine to run on Peanut Oil as a cheap source of fuel for farmers.
 
Has anyone run a TD4 on Bio?

Always tempted me but never had the balls to try. I know a bloke who ran a laguna on cooking oil (fresh) and diesel 50/50 and had now probs. That was when the prices peaked, and they are back on the way up...

Biodiesel Approval would tend not to agree with you.
 
I still don't think we know the full long term effects of these alternative fuels. I would only use them in an old banger that I wouldn't mind if it got damaged.
 
What is biodiesel

I know a few guy's that have the TD4, no problems. If the Bio Diesel is well made, and not the crap from petrol stations which as not been cleaned half the time, it should be fine. Remember to change the fuel filter after a few Hundred miles though. I go on a forum were there's quite afew guy's that have newer cars, and they run fine. But there's always one or Two that have had a bad experiance and blame Bio, and half the time it's Veg Oil mixed with Turps, numpety's being told it's Bio.

But forecourt BIO is often less then 5% bio. 100% bio is a whole different situation and you've not actually offered any eveidence to support your statement that 100% of all the diesel engined vehicles can safely use any qty of bio-diesel. Upto and including 100% bio diesel!
 
As i said earlier Morrisons Bio is B/30, which is 30% Bio 70% Diesel. Most round here sell 100% Bio, but alot is'nt cleaned properly, you can tell by doing a simple wash test, half Bio, half Water shake up and should split into Two seperate layers, the bottom Water, should be crystal clear, telling you that all the soaps, excess caustic, Meth have been eliminated. Quite afew Main dealers will warrant there cars up to B30, but the older cars are better, It's only the newer ones what have all the gissmo's and lights the effect the running of the engine. like i said any Diesel engine will run on well made Bio!!!
Also regular Diesel at the pump as Bio mixed with it up to 5%.

No they won't granted most of them will but certainly older landies with Lucas IP's wont as it fooks the seals up.

I have heard of a couple of cases where veg oil has knackered the in tank fuel pumps on early td4s so proceed with caution:eek:

Up to a couple of years ago BMW didn't recommend Biodiesel for any of their common rail diesel engines which of course includes the td4. Apparently it damages the seals.
 
Running my 1998 l series on a 50/50 diesel/veg oil mix no problems at all,but as said in earlier posts wouldnt run in anything decent.
ran a 2.8 pajero on the same mix and it totally recked the seals
also ran a old escort van on 100% pure veg oil and it ran spot on

That's exactly what I did in the Camel once, only to discover when it spluttered to a halt, that very early ones DIDN'T HAVE A LOW FUEL LIGHT!

Even more annoyingly, it happened a week after Mrs Blip ran out of fuel in the TD4 which I had pulled her leg non-stop about.
