I have just been reading this: Range Rover Remedies and wondered how easy it is to check the oil level in the swivel pin housings, and how often they need lubricating?

I haven’t checked mine and no idea when they were last checked either! I am assuming these are the large shiny things at the end of the steering arms, attached to each wheel – they’re the only clean bit in that area simply because they are constantly moving!!

Thanks :)

There is a small filler/level plug on the swivel housing.
Because your swivels are clean, it looks like there is some oil in there !!

In view of the problems with oil leaking past the seal, a "One Shot" pack of special grease was produced some years ago to be used instead of the oil. This is readily available from LR spares disrtibutors.

by the time they get to our age mike they can well be fooked , I thought the ones on my 90 were ok then found one already was full of grease and the other had a teaspoon of oil in it and a table spoon of water  they both have grease now.

The other funny story on the 72, I though one was leaking and the other one was ok so I got some grease , went to the one that was leaking and got about an egg cup full of oil out and filled it with grease, then thought ok I may as well change the other one too , went to drain it , tub all ready- you you guessed it, there was fook all in there

The best place to get the grease I found , for price and quality, was ebay- went for allmakes 4x4 OEM spec grease- two sachets, one for each side both for £10 including delivery :D
