Hi everyone

New to the forum and hoping that you guys will be able to help!

I have had various Land Rovers over the years, and used to frequent a different forum which since seems to have vanished!

I have recently bought a 110 V8 with an LT95 four speed gearbox. I was considering taking it out and putting a 5 speed box in, but from what i have seen there may be other options!

I am sure this has been covered before but I am struggling to find definitive answers!

What is the highest ratio transfer gear you can fit for road/ motorway use? It would seem there are various options and this might make my Land Rover nicer when at cruising speed.

Also, does anyone make an overdrive for the LT95? I am stuggling to find one. Everywhere seems to have overdrives for a 5 speed gearbox, or a series 4 speed gearbox. Would a series overdrive fit an LT95?

Also, is it worth changing the diffs? I know this will have an effect on the ratio in low range too, but im not going to be doing and extreme off roading or rock crawling so am sure i will still more than enough capability in low.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

there was a fairey over drive that fitted lt 95 i have one im fitting to customers lt95 ive rebuilt for him ,he got the over drive second hand a year or so back
rrc had 4 ratios 1.174 ,1.113 ,1.1227 ,and tallest .9962 which to fit youd need frc4032 and frc4050
you should have 3.54 difs which are the highest standard diffs there is, aftermarket ratios are usually 4.1 so wont help any cruising speed
you could fit a 5 speed box either lt85 or defender v8 lt77 or defender v8 r380 or even a zf 4 speed auto from a disco 1 or rrc v8,they would entail tunnel, floor plates, seat box front ,props and transmission mount changes

Thanks for the responses!

Can’t find an overdrive anywhere at the moment, but am going to check what gear I have in the transfer box and see if I can upgrade that as a start!
