I bought my land rover and the reverse light didn't work.
I got bought a new led one for Christmas and wired it up. Still didn't work.
I read up of the possible faults and got to look at it today.
Thought it would be a break in the wire or the switch.
I am not good with electrics but can't definitely say it's all of the above.

The switch is broken and the wiring is completely missing from the switch to the light. But someone has left the wires to the reverse lights and fog lights at the light end but neither work / connected.

I understand a wire goes to the fuse box and the other one then goes to the reverse light.
Please can someone tell me which wire goes to the fuse and which fuse.

What wire do I use for the rewire?

I would appreciate any pictures.

Thanks

Ok I've figure what wire I need just need help on wiring it from scratch.

go to your fusebox and see where the orig reverse wire ended up. it might be hidden or snipped. patch a new one on to the switch and the wire the other end of the switch to the light

Don't think I explained myself very well. There is no sign of where it went at fuse box. Only wires have been cut off near the back of the vehicle where reverse light is.

None.......just the old switch with a yellow plastic end. There isn't even a trace of wire attached.
Nothing at the fuse box either.

I will take a picture tomorrow of what there is. There is a wire to the diff lock and a couple of others

Should be a pair of green wires going to the switch, in a black plastic sleeve. One end goes to a fuse (check the fuse cover), the other end heads off into the rear loom and should appear at the drivers side under the cover (rear corner). The light will connect there for the live feed, with the other side of the light wiring going to an earth multi connector in the same place.

This is what I have. The close up pic shows the diff lock wires I believe but nothing going to the reverse switch

have you no wiring loom running down the drivers side of gear box,if not look at connectors near clutch pedal box, you should have a green live and green/brown to lamp

If you get fed up trying to find the right loom / wires. you could make it simpler and have a wire going from the battery positive, with an inline 5 or 10 amp fuse, to the switch. then from the switch to the light, then out onto chassis ground.

Only problem I could see with this is that if you left it parked in reverse the light would stay on as it wouldn't be going through the ignition / main fuse box power so wouldn't need the key to work.

But it would be simple to do if you just needed it done now.
