Hi, My mate has a series 2a/3 fitted with a daihatsu 2.8 non turbo engine. He currently has a series 2 g/box fitted with over drive. Question is this:- He wants to know can a 5 speed LT77 from a 90/110 be in the series 3 chassis. If so, what has to be done to enable it to fit.
Any info welcome.

remove cross member, use defender one bolt in,modify props ,fit tunnel floor plates out of defender ,fit 2wd kit in lt230 center diff so only 4wd in difflock,or fit cv front axle use defender handbrake lever, defender chassis mounts will bolt in too

James how much shorter would the rear prop need to be - wouldn't it create too steep an angle?

OK, clutch went yesterday and the GB was already knackered so i'm gonna have a go at this. Got a decent defender LT77 ready to go in, but have a couple more questions - my lightweight has a shoretened RRC chassis so will i be able to get away with leaving the cross member or does it still need replacing? Also, if i use the standard defender transfer box will the overall output ratios be the same as my S3 box or should i use a disco Tfer box? cheers, Ad.
