LT77 Glued to Transfer case?!

Hi All,

I could do with some advice about splitting a TC from the main gearbox...

All bolts and the single nut have been removed but it seems the previous owner had "Glued" the two together with some sort of magic gasket stuff?? :fighting:

Am I ok to wedge something flat beteen the two and hope it starts to come apart?

Single nut? There's two. On the front of the transfer box looking towards the rear of the vehicle you have two threaded studs at the left, just next to where the gearbox meets it. One at the top beside the hi/low linkage and one at the bottom. You did take both those nuts off didn't you?
 
Humm, I had 5 bolts and one stud?

I have them all off and the linkages disconnected, but it looks like some strong silicone/magic gasket all the way around it - just to make life more difficult ...
 
There are four bolts on the rear, two at the top and two at the left. On the front are two threaded studs with nuts. Unless one of your studs has been replaced by a bolt, can't see why though. It is still a bit tight even with the bolts out. Take the PTO cover off and remove the input gear as this will help but its just a case of wiggling it free. Make sure you've got the weight though so that it doesn't damage the splines on the gearbox output shaft if it falls
 
OK, this TC is getting hte better of me now...

All bolts / nuts have definatley been removed but there is a bead of super strong silicone type stuff holding it to the gearbox. Does anyone know if I can gently heat up the TC to try and melt the glue? Never done it will alloy before...

it will just be rtv, some people seal them. it won't be stopping you from separating them

my vote is on you missing a bolt/nut

I have removed 6 fixings which should be all of them, but I will go and check again when im home, as I agree it would be the most obvious..

Any ideas how can I break the RTV seal without damaging the casing - should it just Jiggle/Wiggle and rock apart?

EDIT - Reading the earlier posts there should be more bolts etc to remove... ("im being stupid" - hopefully)!
 
As I said there are 4 at the rear and two nuts at the front. It is still tight even with all of them off so just give it a wiggle and a pull at the same time. As long as you've got the weight supported then dont be shy with it

rtv will just separate, wiggle wiggle, maybe even a tap on either side with a soft faced hammer on none seal surfaces
 
Cheers, reading another post online there should be a 13mm bolt that needs to be removed - so far I have only used a 17mm... so there is another fixing somewhere??
