Thought i had better start a new thread instead of hijacking Nates R380 one

Had posed a question on oil for my 90 LT77 and was sent to http://www.syncrogearboxes.com

Was horrified as haven't ever changed my oil just checked the levels didn;t even know there was a strainer.
Guess i had better find the service kit for it and do it while it's on the ramp

How is the service anything to watch out for ?

Whilst there i browsed onto this
http://www.syncrogearboxes.com/shop/defender-slickshift/

Anyone fitted one used one got any experience of them ?

It won't fix a worn box ( synchros/baulk rings etc ) and it doesn't claim to. It does fix the sloppiness of the lever and provided more positive gear selection.
Drain and replace the oil first. ATF II used to be recommended, although you may be advised MTF now, under no circumstances use snake oil.

Cheers Guys

gearbox is working ok so will change the oil and see what colour it is and what is stuck to the bung.

Mmmmh it will get either ATF or MTF might depend on if the farm has any in their stores. :)
They buy their fluids in barrels so wont mind if i have 2.6Litres

Will let you know what i find.

re the slickshift just wondered if anyone had one etc.mine selects ok other than reverse which can be a t**t sometimes

Cheers

In what way is reverse a struggle? Reverse light switch can cause problems if it's improperly adjusted or broken.

Mine is also a struggle to get into reverse, it's quite hard to find and has quite a lot of resistance before it'll go in. My reverse light switch also doesn't work - in what way does that affect it? Sorry to hijack the thread!

if switch is prc2911 is wound in too far it will stop selector shaft going backwards enough for full engagement of rev idler gear , on drivers side of gear box top is the reverse plunger, they can be shimmed to top so 1st gear is perfectly aligned when lever is pushed to it, the sprung plunger that you compres as you go further over with the lever for reverse stiffen over time a strip and clean and fresh grease help

Yeah i made the reverse switch error when i fitted a new clutch, looked in from top of seat box and thought oh that's sticking out then found i cant get reverse at all, think my selection is just wear. depends sometimes it goes in fine others it clashes a bit or needs moving forwards a tad.

No worries Merryck check electrical feed and that they are wired in ok, if awkward all the time turn the switch out a thread and see if that helps.
