ok folks did this the other day , all went smoothly bar a well lubricated arm and shoulder , just found a guide on difflock.com, this one

DIFFLOCK - 5 speed box Oil change

as i was checking out the routine for transfer box service , never having serviced a 4x4 previously and it mentions the need to have removed & cleaned a filter out for the gearbox:doh: , as i did not spot this little bugger at the time is this problematic or just make sure i do that next time i service the main box , i assume i cant remove it after the fact without losing a good amount of my nice fresh atf D3 , just after some informed & experienced reassurance:) , cheers

Manual gearboxes don't have a replaceable filter. The TDi 200/LT77 has a small mesh filter that you are supposed to take out, wash in petrol, dry and replace. It's in the second sump plug.

Last time I did mine, the mesh filter had all but disintegrated. Only a couple of quid for a replacement though.
I don't think it does much. If you've put that expensive Difflock oil in it, I'd leave it till the next change. If you've put cheap ATF in it then change it and do the filter in 3000 miles or so.
