I think iv wasted my money here,
I bought a 1.222 T/box of a 300 disco to fit to my TD5 defender.
Its since been brought to my attention that the TD5 has a different output shaft from the gearbox.
Can anyone confirm or deny the above?

who bought you that piece of poor advice to your attention, you might have a different output front flange if it had double cardan joint but disco 1 didnt as std ,but they can be swapped ,you will need to make a switch to use instead of hi/lo switch on t/box if you want that input to the ecu

So the box will bolt straight on?
I Need to alter the hi low switch? Any more details on that?
Also i think iv got to drill some holes for the handbrake mech?
How difficult is swapping the housing and using my original housing and switch?
Would I be better just ordering a gear set from somewhere?
I seriously thought it was bolt off bolt on I'm not over confident drilling holes in my case!!!

yes bolt straight up check both dowels though some stick in gear box some t/box so you can end up with none, tdg def will have direct cable hand brake so either just bolt your old one on or fit def cable to disco hand brake shoes ,no drilling needed ,front housing conjtains shim for diff taper bearings so youd be very lucky if you swapped housing and bearing race over if diff preload remained correct it can be done but requires you to check and reset diff bearings which requires full strip of output housing
