Hi All
I have a Nicholson McLaren Engines LPG System fitted to my P38 Range Rover
This in my opinion was my first mistake buying a Range Rover with this system as this company wont give you any information at all and every LPG installer I have spoken to don’t want to know this sytem.

I managed to track down the original installer who doesn’t install LPG anymore but still has the software on his laptop so for £75 he read the faults for me.
Most were nothing serious but one was showing that the gas pressure was dropping as soon as the engine was switch off and there was a strong smell of gas.

Bearing in mind that the car will not run on gas and there were no leaks from the pipe work or the analyser he came to the conclusion that I had leaking gas injectors.
That was as far as he could help me.

My problem now is that I can not find anyone who sells the injectors.

The analyser is an AG Autogas Systems 600.001
The injectors are AG Autogas Systems 600 050 116-3

Me again, :DI had this very system fitted to my Disco in 2006 by Alan at Stenhouse motor Co. Slateford Road Edinburgh EH14 1QA 0131 443 3372.

Not the cheapest by any means, in fact probably one of the dearest but he did a good job and the system appears to work OK.

It may be worth giving him a ring

Thanks for your reply. I have this system on my disco you know the one, which is waiting for me to put the heads back on. (still bidding for stud extractors)

Its my P38 which is having the gas problems. I have tried allsorts to get this system running properly. Last night another LPG installer came up with the idea that if I have had a flat battery and jump-started the car it may have spiked the electronics. He says it then tries to run on petrol and gas. His advice was to try and get in running on gas and then unplug the gas injectors if it still runs then that’s the problem. Seems a long shot but I am go to try it on Monday.

He did say that it was very rare for AG injectors to be faulty.

I am using the car at the weekend so don’t want to end up with it not running this weekend. I will have to dig deep and put petrol in.

I have this system on my D2 'x' plate . I use Medway dual fuel for servicing etc. I found them very knowledgeable , I think one of the owners is ex landrover

I have a 2001 P38 Range Rover Vogue with Nicholson McLaren Autogas fitted by a previous owner in 2005.
My engine runs perfectly on petrol, but then "misses" when running on gas, after about 10-20 miles from a cold start.

Various diagnoses have been made by different people, but today [5 August 2010] an electronic diagnosis by an AG specialist tells me that number 3 and 5 pots need injectors.

I'm told by others that injectors cost about £80 each, and multiplying that by 8 isn't a bundle of laughs!
I'm expecting the bill to be approaching £1000!
I'm also probably going to decide that, because I only do about 6,000 - 8,0000 miles per year, I might just run on petrol and screw the f-----g gas, bearing in mind what I've spent already since I bought the car in September 2009!!

I've been in touch with 4 "experts" in Autogas systems - 3 of them are familiar with Nicholson McLaren AG systems, and each one warned me about the possibility of dodgy injectors.

Now, I know this doesn't address your particular issue, but if you'd like to know the contact details of these 4 people, please let me know and I'll send you contact details. Anyone else reading this post is welcome to contact me for these details too, if it helps.

The 4 are based in Sproatley [Hull], Spalding [Lincs], Boston [Lincs] and Barrow,[Cumbria].

I had a misfire when running on gas, a new set of heavy duty ignition leads sorted the problem. I think I paid about £25 for the set as I recall. If you haven't already tried them it may be worth a go.

Hi, and thank you for your response....

Only a few days before the injector diagnosis was made, I had a set of Magnecor [blue] 8mm HT leads fitted.......it made no difference to the problem.
This set of Magnecor leads cost £94 delivered from Motorsport World of Strathaven, Lanarkshire.
 
I had similar LPG problems with mine - it wasn't happy on LPG but ran great on petrol. Changed leads and plugs, still not happy on LPG.

In the end the local garage discovered it was the Vaporizer (for some reason I want to call it the Vibrator, must be the letter 'V'). It was replaced and the LPG problem was solved.

Ignition leads make a big difference.

We swapped our coil packs and leads for a newer set to cure a slight misfire on gas, but it made it worse.

Got a brand new set of leads off ebay, saw sparking inter-lead behind the engine on start-up, so new leads no good. Visible in daylight.

Fitted the original coil and new leads, same problem.

Fitted original leads (Champion Triple-Silicon) and it's back to normal.

Looked for Magnecor leads, seemed a bit expensive, so we are going to pick a set up in the USA next week, then we were told that they had/have quality issues, so we were recommended to buy STI leads. $US 50.00 posted to our friend's place (Paul Schram, independent Land Rover shop)

Most vapourisers don't have any moving parts, but do have a gas solenoid valve and temperature sensors on them.
