Hi all,

I recently answered a post somewhere in the forum where a couple of people where asking about LPG conversions. As I have recently had my V8 disco converted I said I'd post up my verdicts once the run-in period, and subsequent tune-up were complete.

Well, its done. Am I happy? Absolutely; my current running costs are down to 13.5p per mile (almost half that of the cost of running on petrol, and a good couple of pence cheaper per mile than my 200tdi D90). The engine is running beautifully with no noticeable loss of power anywhere through the range.

If anyone is umming or ahhing over the thought of shelling out £1300 for this kind of conversion, don't. Do it, you will not be dissapointed!!!

:D :D :D

dam streight i just converted my lightweight to lpg i can run it for the same price as a 1.2l micra diesel (if it exists, but you get the idea!!) it'll be a bit slower just because it was made in 1964.
plus it was free out of our old volvo 740. cost £1100 new

could you people give me some advice on converting my mates 1999 4.6 hse autobiography ?
i heard never cars are harder to convince that they are running on fuel when converted to lpg .
how much would a decent lpg conversion kit cost ????
can a diy mechanic install the system easily ?
and are there any companies out there you could recommend for me please ????

in the latest landrover mag - LRM - on page 162 there is an advert for a sequential injection lpg conversion for a £1000 excluding-vat e-mail them at [email protected] or 01285 770909 it also says that it's suitable for the home mechanic.
or there is always ebay.
http://www.lpga.co.uk/approved_conversion.htm heres a list of the approved dealers in britain.
hope this helps the initial cost of the conversion pays for itself within a year on fuel savings!
enjoy

many thanks for the info
i just found a full injection kit for the car for about 800quid inc the tank and programming leads plus the software for the ecu (as i have been told on the phone )
this guy selling the kit also does business on ebay and he told me the price is excluding the vat as he is not vat registered. now i decided to go and have a look at this so called kit but i have not got a professional idea on what i exactly will be looking out for as i have never seen one of them kits in my life ,so some pro info would be great help before i go over to view it???? i.e what sort of am i looking for in this kit ,what make are they likely to be or does that matter at all ????etc

the guy selling the kit also said he will provide me with a copy of the fitting instructions and all so there is not a problem there and with the programming lead he said i will be able to programme the ecu with a laptop once the installation is finished .

does it all sound right ????

many thanks

i'm not realy an expert as mine is on a carburrator but we looked in to converting our volvo760 onto lpg (19mpg on a good day fast though!) and they just put the gas pipe into the air intake therefore not using the injectors. it's a basic carb but it works. with the ecu been advanced even by modern standards (1986) it compensates for rich air and fuel mixtures. thats the most basic version at about £400. hope this helped as i said i'm not an expert. sure someone can though!!

I'm no expert either, but it all sounds about right. I had mine converted at a garage and they did everything; installation, programming, tune-up, all for £1300. Read the adverts in as many mags as possible and you should get a very good idea of what a kit ought to include...
