Its dawned on me I have not ever pushed the big lever over towards the passenger seat.....is it best that I dont just in case or should I try it? When I bought it the seller said...if it was faulty the dashboard would tell you :)

It is always wise to exercise the TB ratio change as they do tend to stick or gum up....

That being said, if it hasn't been used for bloody ages, it could burn the shift motor out trying to turn a gummed up transfer box ratio selector shaft!

I change ratio on mine once a week to ensure it moves and stays free.

SELECT NEUTRAL message usually means you have tried to select a drive gear before the ratio change has been completed...

Try this:
Engine Running
Put Gear Selector in Neutral
Push across to Passenger (Low Range)
Wait for the selector panel lights to stop flashing and the beeps to stop
Select D (or a gear number)
Stop
Put Gear Selector back into Neutral
Pull Lever back to Drivers Side (High Range)
Wait for the lights and beeps again
Select D and off you go!

If you have waited for the lights and beeps and yet when you select a drive gear you still get the Select Neutral message, it could mean the shift motor switch pack is going south!

I assume this is reversed if you're using a left-hooker.
