I've got a 2005 TD4. Had to get the RAC out when it wouldn't start (turned over but wouldn't fire up). RAC said it looked like it was definitely the low pressure pump.........2 queries for answers please:

1. The RAC guy cleaned up the pump and since then the car has started without a problem......although that's only been two days. Do I need to buy a new pump givne that the problem seems to've been fixed?
2. If I do need to buy a new one where would be the best place to get one and roughly how much will it be? I think it's around £130 plus VAT but that's a guess.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Same fault mine had.......AA said same thing so got someone to drive one out to me......still wouldnt start so had to get recovered from wales to manchester.......turned out to be an injector on mine (I always have 2 new spares in the boot now)
But as yours started again I would think of changing the pump and filter or at least getting them in ready.

How did the RAC clean up the pump as its a sealed unit. I found changing the LP pump and filter on mine turned into a time consuming job and something I would never have attempted as a breakdown.

Thanks for your input one and all. I think the RAC guy removed the pump, checked the electrical connections etc and when he put it back it worked again. Agree I'm best to get a new one for when the old on goes....seems like it'll be a question of when it goes again, not if. As an aside what filter do I need to get?

Bought my filter as part of a service kit off eBay part No WJN 000080 priced from £4.50 to £19 just put Freelander fuel filter in eBay search. Mine was a Britpart filter which are ok for filters but not much else (in my opinion)

Hi Rikky,

I had a similar problem with my 2005 td4 recently of losing power and eventually trouble starting. I had a new pump and filter fitted and it cost me £200 but i took eveyones advice and went for a decent pump. its been running sweet ever since.
