Low High gear button

Hi i have a Range Rover P38 2.5DSE 1996. I have only 1 differential conected (1 axel) so just the rear differential is working. This is a problem why my high low gear box dose not work??

No the low range should still work, it has nothing to do with how many prop shafts it has. The car does not know it only has one prop shaft. Unless you told it of course.

Watch out for the VCU letting go and leaving you stranded. why would you want low range on a 2 wheel drive car with limited traction?

No i dont want to use the low gear button in this condition but im was watching if the transfer box is working or not. What i have to do, and what i should whatch for this problem.

The light in that button dose not flash when i press and nothing say on display about low or high gear selected. If the transfer box have a problem should be displayed on dashboard????

Stick it on diagnostics. That should tell you if button is making or not. Or if there are any fault codes. The button just sends a signal to the ECU to drive the transfer motor. Micro switches in that then light up the dash via the ECU. If it is not getting a signal it won't drive the motor.

Excuse my ignorance ,but I dont think you select Low ratio by pushing a button.Is this RR a manual gearbox or Auto.?

Button on the manual which he has. Stick on the auto.

Firt thing to check is if the switch is plugged into the loom...

Next is to check the switch is actually switching.....

If the above are good....

Check Transfer Motor on the Transfer Box, check it is plugged in....

If that is good, remove from Transfer Box and power it using 12V supply....

If it turns as it should - suspect Transfer Case ECU - they are known to burn out.
