Low coolant / software update?

Hi,

picked up my used Discovery 3 a couple of weeks before Christmas and love it to bits. I'm really pleased with it apart from one or two niggles, namely, the LOW COOLANT LEVEL warning is displayed and the Stereo controls on the MFSW are intermittant. I've checked the coolant level but reported to the dealer. They asked me to take it in to be checked and the garage who ran the diag said that they think it needs a "Software Download".

Does this sound right? I'm a bit doubtful but don't know enough about it to be sure.

I rang the dealer again this morning who've asked me to take it to a LR main dealer who'll do this for me.

Any advice appreciated.

You need a new coolant bottle to fix the Low Coolant warning. The float absorbs the coolant. The replacement bottle is the one used in the Discovery4.

The first thing you do with electronics on these is usually a software update using IDS. Doesn't usually fix the problems, but at least the ECU is then up-to-date with the latest version of the software.

For completeness, I took the car into the local LR dealer and they replaced the coolant bottle as pointed out above. They also replaced the MF steering wheel swich cluster which has stopped the stereo controls being "confused".

It was also reporting that the Driver's Door was open when it wasn't. They replaced the door closed sensor and it seemed fine. The next day, it started saying "Drivers Door Open" again! It seems to have stopped today though..

You can now buy the Low Coolant level sensor that fits into the bottom end of the expansion tank for about £3.50p. It is LR part number PCJ500030
