My 88 LR90 has recently started making a loud and slightly alarming humming/vibrating noise in 4th and 5th gears at approx 45 mph. The noise completely disappears if I hit the clutch and I seem to be able to accelerate out of the problem i.e. Once the noise starts, if I put my foot to the floor the noise goes away. It seems at its worst in 5th when just maintaining speed.
I have read various threads and have hence checked props and UJ's and there is no discernable play. The front prop UJ's have been changed since the problem started but didn't cure the problem.
One other thing is that the problem started when towing a large trailor which put the 19J engine under a lot of strain!
Any thoughts on what could be causing this would be very helpful.
