totally baffled by this one which doesn't take a lot really. Left her standing for about a week and could not start so bumped her 20 mile trip stopped and she wouldn't start so bumped again got home and replaced the battery all good for a while then same then so thought alternator changed that couple of trips and then the same - any ideas?

There seems to be a general lack of information in many recent threads, from vague titles to scarce information within. Imo, if the OP doesn't ensure all information is given, then many won't be bothered to answer, and I suspect I'm not alone thinking this.

Shipmate this is supposed to be an exchange between those that have info and those that don't, your post I would suspect turn a lot of people off this site, it won't me as I have come across a lot of people that think info is power - you would be better off educating rather than bashing from the internet- I presumed wrongly that my profile was visible and gave the model and engine etc - I note you still took the time to bash with your red emoji face LOL

Have you checked the charge rate, what is it.
Is the replacement alternator new, used, refurbed, genuine, aftermarket.
Not impossible to buy a defective battery, highly unlikely, but I did many moons ago, has the replacement battery been tested.
Was the old battery tested.
Have you checked the main earth leads.
Do you have a multimeter.

It's 2001 petrol 1.8 can't be an interior light but did laugh at that as even on a long trip if engine is stopped she will not start again, new battery and alternator but that is as far as my limited knowledge would go

All parts new including the multi meter which I will YouTube on its use - will get to all these points this weekend and thanks for pointing me in the right direction

So sorry thought all the info was on the profile and am not familiar with the site on a daily basis - if there any other info I can provide that would help at all and thanks btw for your time.
We can’t see your profile without clicking through several pages - you may not have known that, but why not just answer Sax’s question?

It’s a 2000 Freelander 1.8.
EDIT: Ah, bingo - you’ve just posted above.

What exactly happens when it doesn’t start? Clicking? Dimming of lights?

It is useful when asking for help with an issue.

I normally would, but was having a bad morning.

I presumed wrongly that my profile was visible and gave the model and engine etc -
Not on the same screen as the thread. It would be helpful if it was though.

I actually clicked the wrong one. I ment to use this one:confused:, so it's now corrected.

It's 2001 petrol 1.8
Ok, that's helpful.
It could be the starter trigger wire connection that is corroded. This is very common and stops the starter from doing anything at all. If it's clicking when the key is turned, then it's likely the starter solenoid contactor which is worn out, again very common.
More helpful I hope.

At least it was a Freelander. Profile pic makes it look like rust would be the primary issue ;)

Does the red ignition light come on when you turn the key to position 2 and does it sound like a flat battery, eg very slow starter turning?
