Lost Trust in Freelander 2 TD4 Diesel

Hi All

Please help regarding my Freelander 2 as I have got to the stage where I do not want to drive it. I guess I will have to take it to Landrover but would like to hear your thoughts on what could be causing the issues first.

For a few months it has had a few issues like feeling as though it was about to stall when coming to a stop or as though it had cut out for a second when driving at speed. It hasn't been anything specific & I've wondered whether I've just imagined it.

The last 3 days I have driven it I have had an issue;

- Cut out at roundabout when I accelerated to go. Started up immediately. Had been in traffic for a while.
- Driving at 40mph seemed to lose all power for a second but no lights came on & was fine afterwards.
- Today had a short run & then when I accelerated to pull away from parking position the car had no power & the battery light was on. Put in park position & light went. Drove fine afterwards.

It is a 2007 reg & has approx 88000 miles on.

Sounds like it needs a full diagnostic session. There's obviously something up with it, but not enough to put the engine light on.

You could have a sticking throttle plate or dodgy EGR valve. Those items are the most common cause of faults on a diesel.

All cars have little quirks. Even our 2 year old Ford Kuga will hunt at light throttle sometimes and be hesitant at other times. 99.9% of the time it's fine however.

Would a dodgy turbo boost solenoid give the same problems?
 
As Nodge says likely to be throttle valve or EGR valve but is only a guess without proper diagnostics (not just fault codes read) being carried out
 
Thank you so much for your replies. Typical it has behaved itself all weekend. Guessing it will play up again at some point though

In your experience do you think it is better to take it straight to Landrover rather than trying a garage who can read fault codes?
