Good day all.I have been running my 300tdi on a mixture of 80%WVO AND 20% PETROL.On a full tank I drove for 35 miles and topped up with Supermarket diesel. My calculation indicated I was getting 18.8 miles to the gallon. This was on short journeys only. The car has been running fine however while on a journey after 30 miles it began to loose power.I stopped the car and revved it up hoping to clear it but the revs went round the clock then fell back to 2000 this was with the pedal to the floor. It starts ok and idles where it should, but as soon as I put my foot down it powers up then falls back to idle.It will idle indefinitely if I want.I switched of the engine for 10 minutes started up again and it revved up ok then fell back again.I removed the fuel filter and cleaned it out. The fuel looked a bit thick.Replaced the filter back on and it made no difference. Before this problem I thought I should empty the full tank but in trying to remove the hose pipes at the sender unit, one of them (the return one) partial broke (Rust).Never attempted to remove the feed one.I managed to seal the small hole with sealant and no fuel has come out and as I said the car was running fine on short journeys.Would a possible reason for the no power problem be air getting in to the system via the sender unit return pipe.Perhaps the hole is not sealed.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.:)

why 20% petrol?

since 'cleaning' the fuel filter have you actually changed it? When was the last time it had a NEW fuel filter?

Have you cleaned out the sedimenter?

Thanks for the reply. The filter is 500miles old.No Have not cleaned out the sedimenter.
20% petrol was advised on a number of forum for winter running. As I said it was running fine on this mixture.

Bypass the sedimentor with 8mm hose, change the filter as well. There is a good chance you have an air leak from the tank connections though, more so if one is rusted.

Many thanks for the last reply. What I have done so far is drained the sedimentor via the drain plug, only the mixture came out freely.I have now drained the tank and most of the mixture was clean. The mixture I was using was unused cleaned contaminated rape seed oil and 20%petrol.The bottom of the tank has quite a bit of yellowish sediment in it.Could I use some petrol to wash it out ie via my suction hose.In the meantime I'm waiting delivery of a new fuel filter and fuel hose.I will also change the sender unit.
Many thanks for your replies.:D

Hi All.Have now drained the tank which had thickish yellow substance in the bottom of the tank.Changed the filter and sender unit and drained the sedimentor. Put non supermarket diesel in and all is running well now.I think I should not have put in the petrol as its cleaned the rapeseed oil and pushed it to the bottom of the tank causing my stoppage that plus the air i'm sure was getting in via the rusted sender pipes.Should I stop using used veggie oil????
Many thanks for all your help in this matter.
Regards to all.

I used to use rape seed oil with a touch of thinners when I had a trooper 3.1td. Ran fine on that through the winter.

The glycerides seperated out, that's why it's best to refine the stuff.
