I have a set of Britpart locking nuts on my Defender i got from paddocks and like a moron i left the key nut on and drove away. Of course well lost now and i'm stuck should i need to remove a wheel - which i need to before my MOT next month. Even worse, i have not made a note of the code for the key to order a replacement.

What can i do?

locking nuts are soft as heck.

Go out and buy 4 sockets (cheap ones since you wont be getting them back).

Get a big hammer and bash them on over the nuts so they lock tight.

From there it's just a case of unscrewing them and throwing them in the bin.

My car cam with locking wheel nuts but no tool!
So borrowed a mate at works special locking nut removal socket bloody ****e.
Hammered a 21mm 12 point socket on the nut and off it came simples, to the vice chiselled the nut out of the socket and repeated.
These were the locking nuts with fine spline as opposed to the pin type.

Last lot I had I cut a slot in the head with a thin disc on the grinder then took em off with a big home made screwdriver type thingy. Took about 5 minutes for the lot.

Irwin do removers for rusty nuts and bolts, only lock going left. they work great and re-usable. You will be amazed how many jobs you will find for them.

Brilliant replies, thanks so much. Only worry is what a waste of money they were if they are so easy to take off by a determined person.

Most locking nuts are fairly easy to remove, newer type like F2 a bit harder. If you have a big edge on spline you can usually knock them off with chisel type tool.

If anyone is close to me and doesn't have the gear to remove em I have a pretty big arsenal for doing em. There's probably only around 1 or 2 in 100 that I can't get off within a few minutes.

Shall I ask the obvious?
If they drive to you and you bust their wheel nut off how do they drive home? :p
