So my 110 ended up on the back of a recovery truck yesterday.
Driving along and suddenly the small transfer gear lever jumps into neutral. No problem I thought, just pop it back in and all will be ok.
Not So! The lever is engaging the box and the front prop is turning! Also the splined shaft that sticks out through the centre of the hub is turning on the front near side but no drive.
I understand that the hub casing( if that's what it's called) has stripped it's threads! What's confusing me is that the rear prop isn't turning.
I don't think the diff lock has ever worked but surely there should still be drive to the rear prop?
It's a 200tdi with a lt77 gear box if that matters.
Hope all that kind of makes sense!
Cheers Paul

It's permanent 4WD so if the diff lock doesn't engage then you're not going anywhere
Thanks for the reply Kermit.
Am I right in thinking that I have multiple issues?
Maybe I've been running on just the front axle without realising, or am I miles away?
You've probably sussed out my level of mechanical knowledge.

you have a center diff so unless you engage the difflock all drive will be lost through 1 spinning wheel or a stripped drive spline etc,if your difflock was working youd still have drive at the rear

Thanks, I'm getting my head round it a little bit now.
I've got a new hub casing coming tomorrow( sorry if that's not what it's called) so hopefully that will put me back where I started.
Is fixing the diff lock a major job?
Thanks for the reply!

with no difflock all 4 wheels if they have traction will be driven, the center diff allowing the two axles to vary in speed when cornering just as axle diffs allow both wheels on that axle to differ in speed during cornering, this has a draw back that if you lose traction on any 1 wheel forward motion will be lost as all drive goes through that spinning wheel ,locking the center diff means both axles are now positively driven and a spinning rear wheel wont effect front axle drive and vice versa, youd have to have a front wheel and rear wheel spinning to lose drive

The “low/high lock” confuses many.
When you get it home move it to the left and try again.

Got it! So on the odd occasion when I've been stuck in mud and I've had one wheel spinning, and I've tried to engage the diff lock but still ended up with the one wheel spinning, this confirms that the diff lock isn't working.
Why didn't I join this forum years ago??

Thanks for the reply marjon.
I did get it over to the left and it feels like it's engaging but obviously isn't.

so I guess you are not going to enjoy this job:eek:
Sounds like you may have a few problems that need investigation and if what you state in post 1, then I would say you have an issue with the rear prop not turning then it’s transferbox problem.

I would advise at this point you listen to Mr Martin @jamesmartin :)

I take it that's a job I'm going to enjoy
unless the lower link is broke its normally slack badly adjusted linkage, theres an eye bolt pivot screwed into the gear box adjusting it alters either way in or out,on the t/box theres a spigot that linkage attaches to it has a 13mm nut if you put a spanner on it pointing towards front of vehicle moving spanner clockwise (towards chassis engages diff lock),anti clockwise (towards g/box disengages)inside t/box when you select either unlock or lock it tensions a spring so it only selects when splines align ,this is so you can engage whilst driving, ie you push lever over it will only engage when it can,so if wanting to prove diff locks working jack one front wheel up out of lock wheel will spin by hand, in lock wheel wwont

Thanks a lot, I'll be able to get under and have a look at the weekend, I'm sure this will all make sense when I can actually see what your talking about.
Try to get some rest cos I'll be back

Hi, sorry for the delay!
I've finally had time to have a good look. I put the 13mm spanner on the spigot nut and turned it clockwise, it did turn further than the linkage was doing but unfortunately the jacked up wheel still spins.
What are my options??
I'm very grateful for your help.
Cheers Paul
