Hi all i think i may have broked my series 3 it was my second drive with new clutch and slave cylinder, i was reversing it out of my workshop got so far out lifted the clutch up and nothing nothing at all just a whirring noise instaed so switched it off tried again nothing with the clutch and i could go in all gears without putting my foot on the clutch and it would not move likewise i could switch it off put it it first and it would not move when i started it up but all the time i had that whirring noise so could it be a badly bled clutch with still a bit of air in the system causing it not to relase properly and the release bearing to howl concequently any ideas welcome

Broken rear halfshaft...

Push the Yellow knob down or engage low ratio (also engage freewheeling hubs if fitted) if it moves, pull the rear halfshaft flanges.

sorry all i put it in low and got nothing as well, i honestly doubt a broken half shaft as i was reversing out of the workshop very slowly 1 because of the dog 2 because you get so far out and have to turn full lock or run over swmbos flowers but it has fwh so i will have a bit of a play today (been to bluddy cold) today is a toasty -5 so in the workshop i go haha might be that being a dickhead in low i get nothing as well if the fwh are disengaged and BB its a brand new slave cylinder new copper pipes going to slave cylinder and new fluid throughout

it has to be clutch related surely if you can select all gears without crunching then there is no drive going from the engine to the box:???:

Take the slave cylinder out, do you have drive? (turn engine over with the handle, see if it moves a bit) If you've got drive it's a hydraulics problem - possibly master cylinder pushrod needs adjusting? If not then it looks like a gearbox off job to investigate

well good news to everyone the clutch plate was seemingly stuck to the flywheel as i started the old girl up she went in all the gears pumped the clutch and it went like a semi bang and i had my clutch back as if nothing had happened i drove it around the garden in the snow all gears in low work up to 3rd in high (my garden not that big but put it in 4th and you can stall it) so looks all cured i adjusted the free play re bled the system no air but you still have to check all avenues but all is good now :beer2:
