loss of power

hi all, new to this site and relatively new to discos. i have a '95 300tdi, when towing my caravan it looses power going uphill. i was over taken by an identical outfit like i was standing still. on the flat its not too bad. any ideas as to what it could be? without the van on the back its fine. any help would be grateful, john

to start with check all your turbo hoses, some can blow up on the inside blocking the air flow, or have leak

does it smoke?

only on hard acceleration, i have been told it could be the intercooler needs cleaning out.

is the egr still attached?

it is still attached, but don't know if its working. any ideas on how to check it? thanks

have disconnected the egr, and it still runs the same! the pipes to the intercooler were clogged with oil so cleaned them, hopefully this may help.

bin the egr totaly it will help

if he intercooler pipes had oil in them then i suspect the intercooler could do with a clean out as well.

took egr unit at inlet manifold and all pipe work. now got 1 piece of pipe from inter cooler to inlet manifold, what a difference, thanks for all input and advice
