Hi new here my Freelander 1 was working perfectly then all of a sudden juddered a bit then lost power EGM light came on when cold the car starts first time and runs perfect once up to temp EGM comes on and back to square one things we've done
Cleaned EGR valve , renewed fuel pump under the rear wheel arch and renewed the fuel filter , checked for low pressure , checked and followed TSB , changed fuel rail sensor and installing wiring loom for it, checked pressure regulator on high pressure pump, found O ring damaged renewed regulator, overleyed wiring from regulator to ECU????? Can anyone help please I've been told the high pressure fuel pump any ideas???

Injector fault possible I would think. They can fail when hot. Have you checked the live data for the High pressure fuel rail?

Hi mate,
You NEED to indicate what exact model you have ! :) !!! - otherwise we are p!ssing onto the wind unfortunately :(
The -
FIRST thing to do if the 'money light' comes on is to read the diag code ! - also log it from cold to warm up and beyond.
Worst thing to do is throw parts at it ! most often the cost of the parts that make no difference are more than the appropriate quality diagnostics.
What was / is / were the fault codes exactly ?
Joe

Hi mate thanks for the reply im not mechanically minded but when you say-" Have you checked the live data for the High pressure fuel rail?" is this the same as checking the pressure regulator on the high pressure fuel pump?
You need to get access to a diagnostic device that will give you the pressure on the high pressure fuel rail. This is where the injectors get the fuel from. It's relatively easy to diagnose a high pressure pump fault, simply by monitoring the rail pressure. A healthy high pressure pump should give around 25,000Kpi at idle.

thanks mate its booked in for a diagnostics check with the main dealer tomorrow so they should pick up that fault i cant work out how my mate who is a mechanic of thirty years didn't check that he has the snap on diagnostics maybe never picked up the fault?????

The TD4 can stump the most experienced professionals on occasion. The live engine data is always handy to diagnose running issues. It's far better to see what's going on with the various engine components, rather than throw parts at it.
P1190 is fuel pressure plausibility. So this could mean that the fuel pressure sensor isn't relaying the correct pressure to the ECU. Or the wiring between the FPS isn't sound. Or it could be a problem with the pressure regulator or the HPFP it's self. It could also be caused by poor quality fuel (supermarket fuel) or a blocked injector.
This is why it's important to monitor the fuel pressure at both the low and high pressure pumps. ;)

thanks for the reply the main dealer should be able to pin point the problem shouldn't he £80 + VAT for 1 hour lets hope so

If you are keeping the TD4? Then a diagnostic tool will be a good investment. One that does all most owners will need can be had for less than the price of 1 dealer diagnostic session;)

A cheap but acceptable general diagnostic tool is the Icarsoft I930. This will work with all LR vehicles. It will give you OBDII codes as well as live data from various sensors.
There are more comprehensive units out there but the I930 does most the casual DIYer will need.

any idea what kind of price i would pay?

The I930 is around £80 to £90 depending on who you get it from. There are lots of on line retailers of that unit. Just Google "Icarsoft I930" to find someone selling it for the best price;)

Thanks for all your help mate I will let you know how I get on tomorrow fingers crossed.

Hi mate just got my Freelander back from the main dealers they gave me a print out of the high pressure rail they said I should be getting 20,200KPA but I am only getting 8188KPA and that was working the engine hard I was told to go to a specialist who can check the pressures and test the high pressure pump any ideas??????

There's one of two things causing the low pressure. One could well be the HPFP is playing up. The other could be that the sensor isn't reading the pressure correctly.
The live data should show over 20,000Kpa at idle, ideally nearer to 25,000Kpa. At full power/ RPM 90,000Kpa would be a reasonable figure. I've measured my rail pressure at 112,000Kpa when running it flat out.
So you seeing only 8,000 shows something is wrong. It's just a case of identifying what is up.
