My ever so reliable Defender 90 300 TDI let me down this morning for the first time. After about 20 mins of driving to work, i suddenly lost all power and ground to a stop. It started up again without any problems about 30 secs later allowing me to continue. 5 mins later exactly the same happened again.
Managed to get to work and had a look under the bonnet. There is a new mechanical constant ticking noise around the left side of the engine. Having started it up during the day, the exhaust is clearly pushing out an excessive amount of grey smoke (not black). Wondered if the noise was injectors, which would be causing a restriction to the fuel flow? Anybody had any similar problems, or idea's what it may be? cheers
