Hi All,

As the title says....every now and then my 2005 TD4, seem to lose power, but only for a split second.... The first time it happened i was on a motorway doing a steady 70, split second loss of power, then back on, wasn't too fussed at the time as all seemed ok

The last time this happened (last weekend) i was going up quite a steep country lane, suddenly felt the power go, also noticed the turbo whistle stopped suddenly, then back to power again after a split second.....it dosent happen all the time. I've checked for any error codes and nothing is logged, so I'm a bit stumped with it. Any ideas??

Thanks

Fuel pump, fuel filter, high pressure fuel sensor contacts, split inter cooler hose or an injector starting to go faulty.
Im sure others could add a few more options.

Thanks for the ideas, its just hit 70k does the fuel pump show any noticable symptoms when on thwe way out??

Im replacing drop links at the weekend so will have a look at the other bits while im dirty

No, you have 2 pumps on your model. The low pressure pump is under the car in a plastic box just in front of the drivers side rear wheel......this also has the fuel filter next to it which should be changed at 60k.
When you 1st turn your ignition on you shoulld hear it priming the system for 20 to 30 secs (more noticeable on 1st start of the day).
Your other pump is the high pressure pump in the engine bay. It is a Bosch unit and is located just slightly up and back from the oil filter.
It will more than likley be the low pressure pump that causes the problem.........don't buy cheap eBay ones.....your looking at around £120ish for a genuine pierburg unit....the cheaper ones are noisy and unreliable.
The only normal fault on the high pressure pumps are knackered seals on the piston caps which causes them to leak when 1st started and will normally rear it's head in winter when it's colder if they are starting to go.

Thanks for the info, i can here the pump in the rear prime, then all seems to settle down ok....ill keep an eye on it and see how it goes. I have a 100 mile round trip (motorway) at the end of the month so will see if it does it on this.

Just a quick update, bought a new fuel pump and filter and put it off until last week, got sick of the bumble bee buzz in the back of the car, also had starting issues when the pump didnt start. Replaced pump amd filter and all seems well. Followed the guides on here to replace, filter came straight out....lucky me! However the brackets holding the plastic tray to the car were rotten so made some new ones and bolted the in place before refitting, all in all took me 3 hours to do.

The rivets holding the pump and filter onto the metal brackets had corroded off on mine which resulted in pump and filter floating about, fixed with new rivets and bracket fixing bolts.
