Got the new tyres fitted yesterday and decided to take it out for a wee run. Everything was going fine until I dropped it from 5th to 4th to climb a hill. The revs shot up and I lost all drive. Lots of grumbling and whining noises coming from the gearbox area and I can select each gear without using the clutch with the engine running. It does try to engage when the pedal is nearly all the way down but it won't drive at all. Tried low range and it's just the same although it lurches a bit when going out of high and into low. No sign of any obvious fault looking at it underneath.
Called the AA and out came the owner of the local garage. Towed me back to the garage and have left it with him. Hope it's not going to cost too many ££££s

Anyone else had the same issue?

It doesn't have diff lock. Tried it in Low and High but no difference

Have you checked the T box?
You may find it has the CDL in the transfer box , just not the fitted with the lever, A mate of mine has two w reg D2's and both have the box fitment but not the full lever. If so you can select it from underneath to test it.

Cheers

True, but there can't be any harm in dropping the boxes, TXB to fit CDL and main to fit a new clutch and HD fork just for the craic.

Discovery 2 doesnt have an issue with the clutch fork does it? I thought it was the heavy cast? peice.

@neilly , How do you select CDL from underneath? Sounds like a pain to get to, but may be useful one day...

You may not have it fitted, not all D2's have it, one of the great mysteries / questions on the D2, does it have the CDL complete?, only the mechanism in the box? or nothing? . Mine falls into the nothing category , except that I have the correct sticker inside the vehicle, have to love LR.

Have a look at this video. Although the guy is wrong saying it is there in all D2'S, well not all of them.

As a start, look for the spigot on top of the front of the tbox.

Cheers

I realise this was years ago but yes it turned out to be the clutch centre.

It came out the garage with diff lock working so that’s a result :p. Mechanic said he had a hell of a job trying to free it off.

This old girl is for sale now as I have bought a newer one
