Hate to rain on your parade Irish, but not if it's a bloody range rover!!!

Anyway....I am nearly in tears reading this because my 4.6 HSE has just started drinking water big time... empty water bottle after a days run. Can't find any leaks, oil is clean, but it does smell of coolant.

Will be pulling plugs out tomorrow evening to see what they look like, but I am fearing the worst...

By the way... could it no just be a dodgy water bottle top?

could be, try putting a pop bottle on the overflow pipe and see what happens, if it fills then water is going past the seals for some reason, if not then the water will be going into pots or into oil

I'm a great believer in brute force and ignorance. With these slipped liner jobs - why can't you take off the sump and get a cold chisel up there and batter the liner back up a few thou?

Even though they can be bitches, my P38 is no worse than the old Classic or Discovery I had previously. Admittedly, they appear to need full and regular checks but ignore regular servicing and carry out temporary fixes at your peril. I have had most of the problems- and more that have been posted on here..Blend Motors, Transfer Box bearing, Slipped liner, Failed oil coolers and radiator, leaking A/C condenser, Window regulator, front wheel bearings, BECM etc.etc. Apart from worn 10year old air springs no EAS faults since buying it 7years ago..the majority of the major faults occured in the first 18months. Almost all of the problems were due to wear and tear apart from the engine and electronics. Had I wanted a quiet life, I would have bought a Passat or similar. Even given the massive depreciation and high running costs, looking back, I would still buy another one. If you don't want to get down & dirty-don't buy any Land Rover.
Mine would still take me where I want to go and will start first time, the suspension will stay off the bump stops and I don't keep 5galls. of water in the back. I have not converted to LPG and it has not been modified except for the handsfree phone kit.:tea::smokin:

i wondered that myself jock and then maybe obtain a circlip of the correct size to lock it and the rest inplace at the bottom of the liner, i'm not sure it would seal tho or even work. twas just a thought but i reckon a more technical mind has already thought of it!

Hi, yes it included the engine and the work, I just spend to much time on the internet searching.

I will give the guy a ring in the morning, he cant always get them but you never know your luck. He owns his own garage and just does the work around jobs, may take him a week or so but hey cash is king.
