Looks like some ones selling a knackered V8?

It's my undertanding that the rover V8 takes part of it cooling from the alloy block which makes up the whole unit inlcuding the water jacket, this might be wrong, hence the question. (alloy transfering heat better then steel)

But i'm sure I've seen a dead Rover V8 block as a result of painting.

I'd like to know if there is truth in this?????

Well the only mention of paint I can find in direct reference to Rv V8 is on the RPI website and it is a following warning, and then shows pictures of an orange block with paint running down inside.

Please refrain from painting the inside as well as the outside. This was a fully rebuilt engine supplied to an overseas customer, needless to say, it did not last long.

Which seems to suggest it's OK to paint.

Dont paint the inside as the paint comes off and gets in the oil ways.

Dont paint it red or it will have no power

Dont paint it pink or you may loose your friends

Dont paint it blue or it will never come up to temperature

Dont paint it black or you wont see the oil leaks

etc etc etc:)
