Just had a repair kit fitted to my discovery 2 compressor and it is inflating the bags a bit and very slowly - although it's an improvement on it's original state (not moving at all) it's not really fixed it so I'm guessing the piston cylinder has worn or the replacement ring is not a very good fit

anyways I need to get a new compressor - any good deals around on them at the moment or are they all going for around the £300 - £320 mark

would a used one be a wise move??

thanks chaps

There's a little black top hat shaped bit of plastic inside the compressor, if this has been fitted the wrong way you will get a small amount of air out of the compressor. Enough to shape the bags but not enough pressure to lift the vehicle.

I have a spare compressor I may possibly sell if it helps..?

Hi Ady...I had to get one of these before and couldn't find for any less than the £330 mark. In he end I had to go with springs as even with the new compressor my Disco wouldn't come up off the ground!

I've changed the sensors and put new bags on it so far, from browsing the forum I'm guessing the leaking bags have over worked the compressor, I'm very disappointed with the repair kit - the compressor piston assembly is fairly basic the replacement ring should have done the job unless the bore was damaged which according to the garage was OK

I'm a bit loathed to put springs on - I was going to do it the other month when I was told both bags were trashed

O well out with the credit card.....Again lol!!!!

I had 2 compressors in 3 years and my local independent said it would drive like a dog on springs... Fed up with forking out on the air system I chucked £70 down on springs and I haven't looked back, it drives just as well and saves any future, inevitable, hassle.

Go for it

Buying secondhand is not usually a good idea as the threads on the brass bits get worn. Removing a compressor involves some cutting Im told.

No cutting involved, just disconnect everything, fit new coils and plug in to diagnostics to turn off the dashlight. Still not sure where you stand regards insurance if it's a 7 seater, pretty sure Euro' rules it must be air assisted suspension.

Hi i changed my 2002 from air bags to 2"lift terrafima springs a couple of weeks ago and i love it,ride is fine no problems at all and i don't come out each morning wondering if she will be sat on her arse.... Also prefer the look of her slightly higher !

7-seats on coils is OK, LR list the parts in Microcat so 'factory original'. The also sold that configuration outside of the UK.

We are on coils, always have been. but our son converted his D2 with a Terrafirma 2" lift kit and he loves it. ACE has gone away as well, less to go wrong.

The non-ACE anti-roll bars are not exactly weedy either, they must be 30mm+ in diameter, solid steel.
