Right,

At current I have the P38 V8 which is having some work carried out on it and I also have a Jeep WJ Grand Cherokee 4.7V8.

I really like them both but havent bonded with either as I want to get muddy etc and I used to have a 90 that started life as a standard van and I got the bug from there. TBH i have never got over selling it and as great as the V8's are they just dont hit the spot.

So looking to spend about 7k in a month or so on a Defender, not overly fussed if its a 200tdi / 300tdi or TD5.

Prefer a 110 as it will be easier when we go away with the caravan and dogs.

I have looked on ebay etc and there have been a couple of very tricked up 90's with the TD5 lump in for about 6.5k. Then there is a chap on ebay who does up and sells 110's that look like Camel or G4 vehicles but there are pricy at £7900 for an older car. But they do look mint.

What is the best option to go for, I would love something that has some decent wheels / tires, some suspension mods etc etc. but need to convince the Mrs that spending that money on such an old car is worth it.

If it was me, i would get a good solid clean defender, not be sold by the extra bits. You can add these later, and i would personally say part of the fun and experience. You could get exactly what equipment you need for the environment you will be in.

What I havent looked at prices recently, but 7K for a TD5 seems fairly low, unless its a high miler van type. I would expect a lower mileage TD5 CSW would be more than this (I hope anyways as i have one!!)

If you do get a TD5, i would recommend getting the newer type as you should hopefully have less potential problems.

They are also serviced less often than a 200/300, so this may be a consideration.

I've got a 90 I'm looking to sell. Brilliant condition and has all the add ons you are looking for. Roof rack, winch, winch bumper, large tyres, soundproofed and carpeted, great condition seats, 300tdi, on a 1975 plate, but new chassis engine and all parts, bush guards, rock sliders, in green. I'll put a pic up if you are interested.
Also, selling my jeep wrangler, 2001, black, hard and soft top, new wheels and tyres. Get in touch if you are interested, was looking at £5000 for either, leaves you with £2000 for any extra mods to make it your own.
Cheers,
Ben

The 90 didn't start until 1985 and the defender started in 1990 but yeah ok m8! I have got a wheelbarrow for sale for £4000 if interested gives you 3k to spend on it.

Almost...you can find a few 90's on a 1983 A plate..mines 1984 B...but not quite 1975...either way..its not a 90..i'd guess he's running a series 88 v5 with a re-built 90 and defender bits, as he admits in his short description...which is a tad naughty.

I agree, don't get sold on a dog with lots of shiny bits you didn't need in the first place when you could buy a decent base vehicle to modify as & how you want to.

**** off you spammin, ringing scouse bastard.:mad::mad:

I agree on not getting sold on shiney bits, If I am looking to add the extras myself then I will need to save a couple of grand on my purchase price. As the chances of having the money in the future will be slim.

Hi. Its that spamming, ringing, prototype owning, scouser again :5bbiggrinjester:. Just thought I'd put up a pic for you know it alls. I bought this about a year ago, I know it doesnt match up with what it is registered as but maybe you guys could be helpful rather than well, not? Especially you Treworgey:mil73:- if you could maybe ask a question or wait to see it before having a go, it would certainly make this fourm nicer for a new joiner. Storm-you got it right on the money, as far as i can tell it has been rebuilt and brought upto date, you say this is naughty, is there anything i should do about it. Didnt really know much about them when i bought it but ive educated myself since, though not on the workings of the DVLA.

Your insurance will be invalid if that gets stolen (again) or has an accident...that is not what it says it is on the v5...now, i take it you bought this in good faith...but you're on a bit of a sticky wicket here as its possibly a ringer, possibly stolen or, at best, needing a q plate after inspection...but its going to be re-classed for tax and insurance purposes IF you are allowed to keep it..
