Hello everyone,

Sorry if this isn't in the correct place.

Can anyone recommend where's best to find a well looked after discovery 2.

I'd rather buy from someone direct than via a dealer.

I'm on autotrader etc but it's mostly dealers and they seem to forget to mention issues until you find them.

Ebay I haven't used in a while and when I did there was lots of scams. So i'm apprensive with that. Also they rip the seller off.

Hope someone can point me in the right place.

Thanks

Matt

An owners’ club or forum generally. You might get lucky and find one at a dealer or online.

In my experience you just have to get out there and look at as many as possible.
Start by viewing a really, really good one first, it may be much more than you want to pay or not even be for sale, but you need to know what good looks like and it will give you a baseline to compare against. In particular you need to know what a sound chassis looks, feels and sounds like.
Take a diagnostic tool with you, if they won't let you use it walk away.
Don't narrow your search criteria too much. I set out looking for a 2003-04 TD5 manual with CDL ES/ES Premium/Landmark in Epsom Green with Bahama Beige leather. Turns out those are in demand, prices are high and quality disappointingly low - shockingly so in some cases . I searched from the south coast as far north as Edinburgh and only one I looked at was worth buying at any price. I did find a decent chassis on one with black leather at £6300, but despite the claims of the gear lever sticker and the owner, it did not have a CDL. I widened my search criteria and found a great truck with a lot of the modifications I was planning already done at a fraction of the price of the other, albeit in red (happy) and auto (jury's still out).

Thanks for the heads up I'll do something like that. Just go around looking at loads first.

Would be nice to find a good one first though.

Thanks!
