Hello,

I am after a bit of help,

I currently hang out over the dark side with the Freelander section. I have a 1998 Discovery 3.9 V8 Lpg which i currently have for sale on ebay as i am looking for a either late Classic or preferably a P38.

Well, today a chap has emailed me wanting to do a swap for his 1994 2.5 DSE Manual and i am very interested.

However, I dont know alot about the P38's only that the electrics are as reliable as a Petrol Freelander.

I am going to look at it tonight and the good news is that all electrics work and the Air Suspension works as it should.

He has been open and honest and said he has spent a fortune on reneweing the ventilation, brakes and a couple of other things.

Can you offer some advice as to what i should look out for?

Thanks

Welcome to the bright side Dave,

I can see Redhand has not seen this thread yet.

Good luck when you see the p38. Great cars but are not without a problem or two.
It is a complex car with loads of nice extras, the more you have the more that can go wrong, having said that if it's been cared for and has service history thats half the battle.
I don't have a DSE but an 4.6 HSE which probably have more potential problems due to electric everything and the big engine.
But if you check all the electrics work yourself, and the suspension up,down, several times. Check the Aircon and note any messages. Then take it out for a long drive and check again.
The engine should feel smooth and responsive. Check for leaks etc.
The DSE guys will tell you what to look for with the diesel as the petrol have different tests.

I hope it's a good one.
